Act with Urgency, Stay Patient

Epic Family,
What do you do when you are undertaking a major project? Most of us either wish it would happen overnight or because it’s going to take so long, we simply procrastinate. There are many things that need to be built or rebuilt as we come out of this pandemic. We’re going to have to rebuild some habits as the world opens up a bit. Even for us as Epic Church, we’re going to have to do some rebuilding. And what I want to do in this week’s communication is share with you a lesson I began learning 10 years ago: Act with urgency, but stay patient.

It’s not going to happen overnight. When you ask a successful person about how their success happened, you know what they never say? “It actually happened overnight.” No one says this because nothing significant happens that quickly. You don’t lose weight overnight. You don’t have a great marriage right away. You don’t develop a strong work ethic in a short amount of time. And you don’t become like Jesus immediately.

There is something you can do every single day. While it could take months or weeks to see the end result you’re longing for, you can do something towards that goal every single day. Rather than becoming paralyzed by how far away the finish line is, answer this question: What is one step you can take today towards your ultimate goal?

You will eventually reap one day what you are sowing today. I use the word “eventually” because there is usually some distance between what you do today and the results you’ll see one day. This is true for the good things in our lives and the bad things. Knowing you’ll eventually reap what you’re sowing today, is there anything you need to stop doing? Is there anything you should start doing? Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

"Patience means to remain close to the moment and to fully taste where you are so that the seeds that are sown in the moment can grow and lead you to the future." - Henri Nouwen, Following Jesus

Is there something God is calling you to build or rebuild in your life? Reply to this email to let us know, and we would love to pray for you this week.

Ready to rebuild,

Ben
