January 23, 2017 – Night of Prayer and Worship

On Wednesday, February 8th we will be hosting a night of prayer and worship at Epic. We will have an extended time of worship, with stations set up for you to freely move throughout the room to worship God through confession and communion. We will have a station for you to write prayers out on panel boards, and a station to commit to investing in and inviting friends and neighbors to Epic. We will also have an opportunity for you to be prayed for personally by a team of prayer volunteers. This is going to be a special time as we gather together and ask God to do what only He can do in our church and city. Don’t worry about having to pray out loud or being made to do something you don’t feel comfortable with. We will join our hearts and prayers as we seek God’s presence and blessings in this season.

So mark your calendar and make plans to join us on Wednesday, February 8th from 7-8pm.

January 19, 2017 – Groups

With community groups including Faith in Silicon Valley, The Art of Self-Leadership, Marriage, Intro into Christianity and more, we are anticipating an exciting session of groups this season. There are lots of groups to choose from to fit your age, life stage, and schedule and the new groups page on our website makes it easy for you to find one that’s right for you. By design, we were created for community. God has always intended for us to live our everyday lives and grow in our faith with other people. Epic Groups are an intentional way for you to do just that.

We also have discipleship groups to join. Each of these groups will have a leader who will teach you the tools you need to live as a disciple–a follower of Jesus– and to make disciples. Topics include learning how to read the Bible, pray, and be intentional in sharing your life and faith. Additionally, topics like purpose, discerning God’s will, leveraging the temporary for the eternal will be taught, amongst many other foundational Christian beliefs. Each group is made up of 4 to 6 people of the same gender. Groups commit to meet together for two 12 week sessions. These groups require commitment (but not perfection) to your own relationship with God and to the group. Reasonable assignments will be given each week.

Sign up for a Community Group or Discipleship Group today!

January 3, 2017 – IF Gathering

You would take a few days to attend a conference to help you better at work. You would get away if you knew it would refresh you as a woman – wife, mother, or city dweller. We are making THIS super easy and extremely convenient. Epic is hosting a conference that is for the women in our faith community.

It’s called the IF: Gathering and will be live streamed Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4 right into our auditorium. We will be ushered into times of worship, Bible teaching from possible guests: Christine Caine, Beth Moore, Jennie Allen, Ann Voskamp, Shelly Giglio, Rebekah Lyons, and more. We will sit around the tables and enjoy treats and conversation. And this will be with ladies who call Epic home! What’s not to love?

Get your ticket using the link below! We only have 200 and expect this to be a sell-out event. We packed 300 of us in the last Epic women’s conference and know space will be more limited this time. Consider getting this as a Christmas gift for someone in your small group or a friend.

November 29, 2016 – The Compassion Experience

More than 700 million people in developing countries live on less than $1.90 per day, facing challenges most Americans never will. Compassion International’s The Compassion Experience is making a four-day stop in the San Francisco area December 9-12 and will bring visitors on a journey into the lives of two Compassion-sponsored children living in Kenya and the Philippines. The event will be set up in the parking lot of Stonestown Galleria at 3251 20th Avenue in San Francisco.

A self-guided tour will immerse visitors in the lives of the children. Through the use of an iPod, a headset and over 2,000 square feet of interactive space, visitors will see the children’s homes, walk through schools and markets, and hear life-changing stories of hope—all from the perspective of a child whose life began in poverty. This free event is appropriate for all ages and is an excellent opportunity for anyone who has never had the chance to travel outside the U.S. to get a small glimpse of what life can be like in developing countries.

Make a reservation here. Walk-ins are also welcome! For more information about “The Compassion Experience”, visit

November 19, 2016 – Epic Trips 2017

Each year teams from Epic travel to serve with our partner churches all over the world. This year there will be three opportunities to go and sacrificially give our time to see what God is doing through our church partners globally.

Earlier this year we were so grateful to have Pastor Adi and Flori with us from Impact Church in Romania. It was incredible to hear how God is at work in Impact Church and how He is using Epic to support their mission. Epic will be taking teams to Romania in both April 2017 and June 2017, to experience how Impact Church is making a difference, and to serve alongside them. If you are interested in joining one of these teams then email [email protected] The estimated cost for these trips is $1800.

Epic is excited to launch a brand new partnership with a local church in Ho Chi Minh City this year. Pastor Thuan and Esther started this church six years ago. They are committed to sharing the love and hope of Jesus with their neighbors, family, coworkers and friends. They do this through English clubs, soccer clinics, and reaching out to the poor. The long term vision is to have a location in each of the 24 districts of Ho Chi Minh City. Epic will be taking a team to Ho Chi Minh City to support the work of our partner church in October 2017. If you are interested in joining this team then email [email protected] The estimated cost for this trip is $1500.

November 16, 2016 – The Hope Project

On Sunday at Epic we revealed plans for The Hope Project for 2017. This is such a great opportunity to be a blessing to others by giving sacrificially and serving our partners. With such an ambitious goal this year, it is going to take all of us to play our part and contribute. Read on to find out more about The Hope Project, our partners, and how you can give.

What is The Hope Project?
The Hope Project is our annual initiative by which we fund our strategic partners for the coming year. We use The Hope Project to share details about our local, church planting, and international partners and how we can best support them. Each year we set a financial goal that we can give to fund the work of our partnerships. In the last 5 years, we have given over $400,000 to causes outside of Epic Church.

The Hope Project 2017
This year we are excited to add some brand new local, international and church planting partners. We are supporting churches in Uganda, Vietnam and Romania, as well as churches and organizations right here in San Francisco. Our goal for The Hope Project for 2017 is $140,000, so it is going to take every one of us doing our part to contribute. We are excited to continue to be a church that makes a difference in our world.

When can I give?
You may give anytime between now and January 31, 2017. Epic is challenging the staff and leaders to give by December 4th. Please pray about making your best gift by December 4th as well. We are aware that some people will need to wait until January to give because of year-end bonuses or other unique circumstances.

How can I give?
You can give via check, online here, using bill pay through your bank, using Pushpay, or through stocks and mutual funds. Email Minnie Lee at [email protected] if you have any questions about giving.

I didn’t receive a booklet
If, for some reason, you didn’t receive a Hope Project booklet, and you would like one, you can stop by the Connection Centre at any point on a Sunday morning and pick one up there! You can also view the booklet online here.

Email [email protected] if you have any questions about The Hope Project.

November 11, 2016 – NU2U Garage Sale – Opportunity to Serve

NU2U Thrift Store will be hosting a massive garage sale on Saturday, November 19th, 2016. We will be selling lots of newer items, including high-end furniture, baby clothes, name brand clothes, home goods, etc. We will also be selling hot dogs and waters. The sale is taking place at 107 Sagamore St in the parking lot. (Street parking is free!)

We are in need of people to volunteer to help prepare, set-up, run, and break-down the event. Even if people are able to help for an hour, it would be greatly appreciated! Please let me know if you have anyone interested and free to help with any of the following:

PREPARATION: Any day leading up to the event, Sarah could really use help at 107 Sagamore with sorting and pricing items.
SET-UP: On Saturday, November 19th, from 8am-10:30am, we need people to help set up the parking lot with all of the merchandise.
RUNNING THE SALE: We need volunteers from 9:30am-3pm to help maintain the garage sale. This could be restocking, running the hot-dog booth, taking money, etc.
BREAK-DOWN: From 2:30pm-4:30pm, we will be breaking down the sale and putting what is left back into storage. Depending on how the sale goes, it may not take that long.

Email [email protected] to sign up to serve!

October 31, 2016 – Bessie Carmichael Halloween Carnival

Yesterday volunteers from Epic had a fun time serving at the Bessie Carmichael Halloween Carnival. We were so grateful to be involved in this opportunity to provide a safe and fun environment for kids to enjoy Halloween, and it was such a privilege to serve students and families in our community.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help serve at Bessie Carmichael, the middle school conveniently located at 4th and Harrison. If you’d be willing to volunteer on your lunch hour, or at any point during the day, please email [email protected]

October 18, 2016 – Epic Students

This past weekend our Epic Students (7th-12th grade) met for a movie night to hang out and build community. Epic Students meet every Sunday in the Connection Center during the 10:30am gathering. During this time, they read from the Bible and discuss what it means and how it applies to everyday life. They also meet the 3rd Friday of the month. In the past they have met for ice cream or frisbee in the park. The group will hang out again on November 18 and December 16. Email Will Moraza at [email protected] if you are interested in joining the next Friday Night meet up or if you have any questions about getting involved with our Epic Student Ministry.

September 6, 2016 – Prayer at Epic

Yesterday, we kicked off a brand new series sat Epic, Whatever it Takes. In the first message, we talked about how important it is to pray for the people that God has placed in our lives. Here are 4 practical ways that you can begin to pray for others.

1. 15 Day Prayer Guide – Use this guide and commit to pray for our church, city, and neighbors over the next two weeks. Click here to download.
2. Night of Prayer, Worship, and Dessert – Join us THIS Thursday at 7pm at Epic! We will gather together for a time of worship and prayer. Afterward, we will have desserts in the lobby.
3. Invest & Invite – Who are 3 people in your life that you are praying for right now? We gave out a card on Sunday where you can write their names as a reminder to pray.
4. Sunday Morning Prayer – Each Sunday, a group of people meet to pray 20 minutes before the gathering begins. Email [email protected] to join.

You can watch Sunday’s message on our media page.

August 23, 2016 – Mom’s Group at Epic Church

What a gift it is to be a mother. We’ve prayed, carried, labored, and love those little beings with every ounce of our hearts. God has specifically called us to be mothers to our children, but often times we feel inadequate…feeling as if we lack something to do the very job He made for us. Maybe we worry about how we will balance a job outside of the home and managing a household. Perhaps we feel insignificant because we have decided to become a stay at home mom. Or….maybe…just maybe… we find ourselves yearning for close relationships because we’ve moved miles and miles away from home. Whatever the reason…whatever the season…us mamas need each other. WE NEED COMMUNITY.

The Epic Church Mom’s Group is a place to find encouragement, to grow spiritually, and to build relationships with moms from all walks of life. For 1.5 hours every Tuesday, moms gather at Epic to laugh together, cry together, and grow together. We’re a unique bunch….a place like San Francisco has brought us together from all over the world, yet we find safety and security in belonging to this group. ALL OF US…left our families when we came to San Francisco…yet we’ve gained a BIG family by being part of Epic Church and this Mom’s Group community.

Maybe you’re an expectant mom and have no clue what you’re getting yourself into…there’s a place for you.
Maybe you’re a mom of a little that is keeping you up at night and you can’t figure out how you’re gonna take a shower let alone fit in a quiet time with God…there’s a place for you.
Maybe you’re a mom that is dealing with a defiant teenager, testing boundaries daily, and running away from God…there’s a place for you.
Maybe you’re a seasoned vet of a mom…an empty nester…that is now in a new chapter of your life and you can’t figure out what your new normal is without kids to look after…there’s a place for you.

There’s a place for all of us in our Epic Church Mom’s Small group…because we are ONE in the same. Women, wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, friends…that need community to remind us that we are not alone; that we are deeply loved by our heavenly father, and that we don’t have to be perfect or have it all together because we serve a God that is more than sufficient.

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

This Fall we will be studying, “Mom Enough” a compilation of blog posts written by 7 Christian Mama Authors whose goal is to build a mother’s fearlessness as she finds her sufficiency outside of herself (1 Peter 3:1-6.) We don’t have to pretend that we have it all together or continue to rely on self to battle the day to day grind of being a mother. We can be free and rest in God’s promises. We can stop clinging to ourselves and instead cling to the cross. I hope you join us this fall as we build community and realize that we are “Mom Enough” in Christ.

August 22, 2016 – Join a group today!

Sign-ups have started for our fall session of Epic Groups! It’s in our groups where life happens and is shared within our church. It’s where the unfamiliar faces on a Sunday morning become neighbors and friends. It’s where celebration happens when you get the job you’ve been interviewing for, and it’s also where encouragement and prayer come from when you get bad news, or are having a tough time living in the city. As a community of faith, groups are where we go to discuss the Bible, to bring our insights and our questions.

Join a group today! We have 37 groups meeting across 10 different neighborhoods at various times on 6 days. There is a place for you. If you need help choosing a group, email [email protected]

August 16, 2016 – Volunteer with Epic

August 5, 2016 – Serve Day with Bessie Carmichael School

Bessie Carmichael is a K-8 school in SoMa with 700 students spread over two campuses. We are grateful for the teachers and staff who work everyday to help kids reach their potential. Principal Lagdamen wanted to gift her teachers with a brand new Teachers’ Lounge this year – a place where they could find refuge on their breaks and connect with one another.

A team of 15 people from Epic spent 5 hours on Saturday to make her dream a reality. We cleaned, painted and refurnished the Teachers’ Lounge. It was so much fun to serve with the school in this way. If you are interested in making a difference in a student’s life through mentoring or tutoring or if you would like to help out in a classroom this fall, visit our partnerships page to learn more.

August 5, 2016 – It’s Just A Phase

We want to be a church that helps and equips our parents as they tackle probably the most important and challenging job that they will ever have, and that is being a father or mother to a growing child. Kids are constantly and rapidly changing. They are going through different phases as they grow and develop.

936. That’s the number of weeks that parents have with their child before they turn 18 and likely leave the house shortly after. It seems like a lot, but it goes by fast. Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s just a phase.” It’s typically used to comfort and encourage a parent when they are going through a rather difficult time with their child. Challenges are present at every phase. But in addition to those challenges, every phase of a child’s life presents distinctive opportunities that we can leverage to influence their future. What if we would lean into the phase and learn about the changes and opportunities that are present in our kid’s life right now, so that we can best lead them into a growing faith in Jesus and into becoming a responsible adult within their community.

Last Sunday we shared a great parenting resource and a free gift (picnic blanket) for all of our Epic families. If you haven’t received yours, be sure to stop by the Connection Center this Sunday to pick it up.

August 2, 2016 – Epic in Uganda

United Christian Centre is a thriving church in Kampala, Uganda who is reaching out to and meeting the needs of their community. Through Compassion International, Epic has had the privilege to partner with UCC and the Compassion Project there. Through this partnership and the generous community at Epic, we have been able to sponsor over 100 kids, fund several special projects, and take four trips to experience what God is doing.

On July 20, a team of 15 from Epic traveled to serve, encourage, and spend time with our friends at UCC and Compassion. Here are just a few of the stories and pictures from their adventure.

They visited the project’s Compassion’s Child Survival Program where the organization helps children survive and thrive. Mothers are enrolled into the program even before the child is born. They get prenatal checkups and immunizations. The program not only helps the children get a healthy start, it also empowers the mothers to provide better for their families through literacy and economic training. We have heard countless stories from these mothers and how the program has given them and their children another shot at life.

Child Sponsorship through Compassion International is one of the best ways to make a significant difference in a child’s life. Your sponsorship helps to provide food, medical care, schooling fees, and protection for the child. Compassion does all of this through the local church (UCC) while sharing the hope and love of Jesus with the children. You have the chance to get to know your child and their families through written letters and maybe even a visit one day! The team spent time with all of kids in the project as well as a special day with their sponsored child.

In just a few weeks, the team will have more stories and photos on display in the Connection Center at Epic. For information on how you can get involved with this partnership or sponsor a child, email [email protected]
